MobileMe Goes Live Tomorrow!

Apple has announced that MobileMe, the replacement for dot Mac, goes live starting at 1201 am Pacific Time on July 10. That’s late night tomorrow folks! I’ll be awake and reading the first reports on using the new MobileMe.

Is Apple Punishing Rogers over iPhone Plans?

Rumor on the street has it that Apple is going to short change Rogers on iPhones. Apparently Rogers wants to price their plans beyond what Apple feels is reasonable. How far can Jobs go? I recall that Steve Jobs said that the iPhones themselves would be priced the same for everyone, with a price of $199 or equivalent for the 8GB and $299 for the 16GB.

Prepare for dot Mac to Mobile Me

Mobile Me is just around the corner. If you haven’t realized it, today is the last day to sync your Safari bookmarks with dot Mac. be warned.

if you don’t plan to update any of your dot Mac pages before the weekend, I suggest you create a local backup immediately. You’ll still be able to edit your pages if the dot Mac to Mobile Me transition has problems. Will there be problems? We hope not, but i’ts best be prepared.

Apple’s dot Mac service is down…?

There are many reports that Apple’s dotMac service is down this evening. Could it be a precursor to the Mobile Me service. My initial thought is that dot Mac is undergoing maintenence.

But wouldn’t it be great if Apple sprung Mobile Me tomorrow? It will be Tuesday…

Mobile Me Requirements Posted?

TUAW is reporting that the browser requirements for Mobile Me were mistakingly posted on dot Mac. How soon could we see Mobile Me? My guess is no later than July 11.

Apple Store Sydney Australia is open

And what a store it is. Check out Apple’s official photos here. Let there be no doubt that Apple Retail has not lost their edge in designing new stores. The Sudney store is a real work of Art.

I wonder if any of the Apple Stores will become US or world landmarks? National Register of Historic Places?

Low Apple salaries

So the Internet is abuzz with news that Apple pays their engineers a low salary. With Apple always being so secretive, I have some doubts. But let’s start somewhere else.

Why do engineers want to work at Apple? Is it money? Fame? Prestige? I think it is because they want to work for the coolest company on the planet (Google a close second). They believe in Steve Jobs’ mission to “make a ding in the universe.” Does everything come down to salary? I have known a few Apple SE’s in the Higher Ed division. They weren’t hungry for money, they were hungry to make a difference. The difference is what sets them apart from other engineers. They concentrate on Apple’s mission, concerning themselves with helping people, not adding up their fortunes. Besides, all of that per diem money must be pretty good!

Apple is secretive, OK. So are the engineers really paid that bad? Are talking just salary or do they receive other perks like fantastic stock options?

Apple Store Sydney opens tomorrow

The Apple Store in Sydney, Australia, opens today. Or this morning, this afternoon, or tonight depending on where you live. The new Apple Store is touted to have the world’s largest Genius Bar. Acording to the Apple press release, the store will have room to display 80 Macs and 60 iPods. Looks like “Mac on the Barbie.”

Still no Flash for the iPhone?

Let’s see… Apple didn’t want Flash on the iPhone because it uses too much battery… Adobe was questionable in its effort to develop a less power-consuming Flash player… iPhone users have been out in the cold for almost a year.

Wherefore art thou, Flash innovation? Has the iPhone sales and interest not been enough to warrant Flash for iPhones? One conclusion that we can draw is that something is in Apple’s or Adobe’s development pipeline. It has to be. How can it not be?
